ITC Mission Millets

Contribution towards nutrition strategy - Help India Eat Better

Mission Chilli

India is going through rapid demographic, environmental and nutritional challenges. While the country has progressed in different facets of economic and social factors, it still faces the colossal nutritional challenge of reducing the ‘Triple Burden of Malnutrition’ across all levels of civil society. This puts the focus back on food systems to improve the overall delivery in terms of providing access to food, as well as ensuring nutrition security in the most sustainable manner.

At ITC, it has been a constant endeavor to support the national nutritional and health priorities emanating out of India’s commitments towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2030, and Mission Poshan 2.0. Under the thought leadership of “Nutrition for Nation”, ITC Foods Business Division developed a 4-pillar model that uniquely combines the strategic commitments to deliver on its nutrition strategy – Help India Eat Better. The model is based on strategic and value-based deliverables.

This approach is deeply embedded into the core business strategy, and is reflected in the Company’s key initiatives that include critical stakeholders across various platforms, policies and commitments. Being a responsible leader in this space, ITC believes in supporting the Nation’s vision of health and nutrition, and the potential impact it can have at large.

Millets are an integral aspect of ITC’s nutrition strategy –

“Help India Eat Better”.

It fits very well within 2 of our pillars of –Developing a healthier portfolio and supporting a sustainable food ecosystem. This initiative is also aligned with our credo of Nation First: Sab Saath Badhein. This is also in consonance with the Government of India’s overall focus on nutrition and its Seven Sutras to celebrate the magical golden grain in the International Year of Millets. Being both a climate change resistant & a highly nutritious food crop – it is extremely versatile to be used in multiple cuisines with negligible impact on the climate and the agri- value chain. We at ITC fully support and sync in with the great initiative by the Government of India on making millets available & popular across the globe in this International year of millets.

“Help India Eat Better”.
